DO NOT report my APOE genotype APOE is implicated in not only Cardiovascular disease, which we report on, but also Alzheimer's disease risk. However that said, APOE is poor prognostic indicator of disease risk as there are many hundreds of genes implicated in Alzheimer's and dementia generally. This means that the APOE genotype cannot be used with any accuracy to determine Alzheimer's dementia risk. We have never advised that APOE could be used for this purpose but it is useful for determining diet related information in relation to cardiovascular health. Based on this information some people may not wish to know the results of this genotype. We will not report this genotype if patients do not want to know this particular result.
